Shirley Jo Walker, 78 - April 02, 2015

Shirley Jo Walker, 78, of Lexington, originally of Gothenburg, passed away Thursday, April 2, 2015, at the Elwood Care Center.
Services were conducted on Tuesday, April 7, at the Reynolds-Love Chapel of Lexington with the Rev. Matt Doubet officiating. Burial was at the Peckham Cemetery south of Gothenburg.
Walker was born March 12, 1937, at Gothenburg to George and Shirley (Andrews) Blazer. She grew up in Gothenburg where she attended school.
She was united in marriage to Stanley Walker on Oct. 1, 1958, at Gothenburg at the First Baptist Church. Three children were born to this union.
Walker and her family made their home at Algona, IA, for 13 years, at Gothenburg for about four years, and eventually settled at Lexington in 1976.
During her employment years, she worked weekends at a local motel and worked at a café, but her favorite was working and volunteering at the Dawson County Historical Society.
She served as a Crisis Line volunteer and helped with the Parent/Child Center as well. She was instrumental in helping bring the last Chautuaqua to Lexington.
?Walker also had a great love for animals, especially her cats, according to family members. Family held a special place in her heart and she will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
?She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Gothenburg and a friend of the Berean Bible Church in Lexington.
Walker was preceded in death by: her parents, George and Shirley; her husband, Stanley; a granddaughter, Heather Smith; an uncle, Robert Andrews; cousin, Ardis Foster.
Survivors include: her children—Kathy (Marion) Jackson of Omaha, Susan Smith of Buckner, MO, and Dale (Vicky) Walker of Lexington; two grandchildren—Sally (Julia) Jackson and Ruby Jackson, all of Omaha; two half-sisters—Barbara Miller of Big Springs, TX, and Bette Dixon of San Angelo, TX.
Memorials are suggested to the Salvation Army and the S.P.C.A.
