Elaine Johnson Dodd, 99 - April 07, 2015

Elaine Marie Johnson Dodd, 99, of Mariposa, CA, formerly of Gothenburg, passed away Tuesday, April 7, 2015.
Services to take place will be private.
Dodd was born the daughter of Ebba (Abbie) and Ernest Johnson on March 17, 1916, at Haxtun, CO.
Although her parents grew up in a sod house in Gothenburg, she grew up on the Fredrick Lindberg farm northwest of Gothenburg in Lincoln County.
She attended primary school at a one-room school house where she often rode her horse to school, and graduated from Gothenburg High School in 1933. She wanted to attend nursing school in Lincoln but it was the Depression era and there was no money for schooling.
In 1939, she was united in marriage to Edward Cecil “Jack” Dodd, who was later named to the Nebraska Football Hall of Fame. Her life was a series of military moves until the family settled at Riverside, CA.
Dodd was employed for over 33 years as a dental assistant and medical secretary. When she retired she moved to Oceanside, CA.
She had volunteered over 1,000 hours of service for the Ecumenical Service Center and was a deacon for the Presbyterian Church of Oceanside.
In 1999, she moved to Mariposa to be closer to her daughter’s family. She continued her volunteer service for Manna House, Read to Succeed Literacy Program, and with the Seniors Participating in Community Education Program.
Dodd had a generous spirit, a loving heart and made the best Sunday dinner fried chicken and a delicious apple pie, according to family members. She was a gardener at heart and won numerous awards for her African violets at Oceanside.
She was preceded in death by: her parents, Ebba and Ernest Johnson; a brother, Kenneth Johnson; sister, Lucille Johnson Kratzenstein; her daughter, Dianne Elaine Conney; former husband, Edward Cecil ‘Jack’ Dodd.
Survivors include: her daughter, Kathleen (Dr. Alan) Osgood of Huntington Beach, CA, and their children—Alexander Osgood, Alexis Osgood and Annie Marie Osgood; son-in-law, John Conney of Clark Mills, NY, and daughter, Jacqueline (Kenneth T.) Meriam of Mariposa, and their daughters—Alice Elaine (Robert) Angello of Williamsburg, VA, and Emily Meriam (Gary Miltimore) of Mariposa; great-grandchildren—Cailin Agnello, Ethan Agnello, Bodhi Khampasri, Harmony Miltimore, and Lily Miltimore.
