Sherry Davenport, 75 - May 19, 2015

Sherry L. Davenport, 75, of Arnold passed away Tuesday, May 19, 2015, at her home surrounded by family members.
Services took place on Tuesday, May 26, at St. Agnes Catholic Church in Arnold with the Rev. Thomas Gudipalli as celebrant. Rosary was recited at St. Agnes Catholic Church on Monday, May 25. Interment was conducted at the Arnold Cemetery.
Davenport was born Dec. 29, 1939, to Darrel and Freda (Bowers) Hircock at their farm home near Arnold, the second of four children. She attended elementary school at country schools near Arnold and was a 1957 graduate of Arnold High School.
On Jan. 19, 1958, she married James Davenport. To this union, nine children were born.
After a short time residing at Denver, CO, where she was baptized into the Catholic faith, she and her husband made their home at Arnold. They moved to the farm where she spent the remainder of her life.
In addition to being a patient, loving wife and mother, she enjoyed helping her husband with many of the farming and ranching activities, according to family members.
Davenport’s life was one of service, the family noted. As a member of St. Agnes Catholic Church, she took great joy in sharing the gifts God gave her such as singing, helping prepare meals and teaching youth.
She could do the impossible when it came to cooking, and on summer days she was busy in her large garden as she fed her family well with the work of her hands and the blessings she was given, said family members.
Davenport also spent many hours at her sewing machine making creative clothing and costumes for her children. Some evenings were spent playing cards or board games with her family and friends as well.
?After her children were grown, she became a Mary Kay consultant where she delighted in helping others look and feel their best, family said.
?Later in life, she joined the Arnold Redhatters and was known for some of the crazy red and purple fashion statements she made as part of this fun-loving group of ladies.
She also cherished the time she spent with her many grandchildren, teaching them the joys of making pancakes and cinnamon rolls, and making each one feel special, family stated.
Davenport was preceded in death by: her parents, Darrel and Freda; an infant sister, Lavonne; her son, Michael; a grandson, Andrew.
