Nolan T. Jones, 88 - July 14, 2015

Nolan T. Jones, 88, of Sacramento, CA, formerly of Gothenburg, passed away Tuesday, July 14, 2015.
Jones was born at Manhattan KS, and graduated from Gothenburg High School in 1945. He then served with the United States Navy during the final months of World War II.
He earned a bachelor of science degree from the University of Nebraska in 1951, and a master of science degree from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1954, both in electrical engineering.
Jones was employed with Mitre Corporation in Bedford, MA, his entire career. He was especially proud of being involved in early computers, including the Whirlwind at MIT.
He married Beverly M. McCoy of Minneapolis, MN. She later preceded him in death in 1981.
Jones married Joan Lloyd Borum with whom he enjoyed Democratic politics and exploring the canals of Europe, Canada and the United States, according to family members.
He was active in the Unitarian Universalist Church, and the Middlesex Canal Association.
?Jones was an Eagle Scout and was very active with the Boy Scouts of America in various capacities for 50 years, earning the Silver Beaver award for distinguished service.
?His interests included bridge, camping, conservation, historic canal preservation and tinkering with electronics.
Survivors include: his wife, Joan; his children—Susan Jones (David Wright) of Sacramento, Nolan T. Jones, Jr. of Mt. Carmel, UT, and Cynthia Jones (Fred LaPlante) of Woodinville, WA; a grandson, Galen; his step-children—Christopher (Michelle) Borum of Minneapolis, MN, Owen (Jennifer) Borum of Boulder, CO; and three step-grandchildren.
