Gerald Walker, 80 - December 21, 2015

Gerald “Jerry” David Walker, 80, of North Platte passed away Monday, Dec. 21, 2015, at Great Plains Regional Medical Center.
Services were conducted on Monday, Dec. 28, at the First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Dr. Douglas A. Delp officiating. Graveside services took place at the Farnam Cemetery.
Walker was born July 14, 1935, at Santa Ana, CA, to Henry and Ollie Mae (Hooper) Walker, the second of two children.
He lived at Santa Ana until the age of 10 then moved to Cozad with his mother and stepfather. He graduated from Cozad High School in 1954.
Walker was united in marriage in 1956 to June Lavone Hilton in Cozad at the United Methodist Church. To this union, three children were born.
In 1958, he entered the United States Army and was stationed at Fort Sill in Lawton, OK. In 1960, he transferred to the U.S. Army Corp in Lexington, and was honorably discharged in 1964.
He farmed and hayed in the Cozad area until he became employed with Wayne’s Shoe Store in Cozad. He and his wife later moved to North Platte where he worked for the Northwestern Gas Company for over 20 years before his retirement.
?Walker was a member of the First United Methodist Church and a past member of the American Legion.
?He enjoyed his grandchildren and attending every sporting event where his grandsons participated, according to family members. His interests included country music, dancing, old cars, bike riding, reading about Western history and “Old Times.”
Walker was preceded in death by: his daughter, Michelle Gill; his parents, Henry and Ollie; a sister, Charlene Duckworth.
Survivors include: his wife of 59 years, June of North Platte; his son, Monte (Anissa) Walker of North Platte; his daughter, Marsha (Rick) Nester of Layton, UT; six grandchildren—Sam (Mary) Gill and David Gill, all of Phoenix, AZ, Brittany Nester of Layton and Colton, Luke and Bryson Walker, all of North Platte; a niece, Kathy Schroder of Cozad.
