Donald Hupf, 79 - December 31, 2015

Donald Eugene Hupf, 79, of Cozad passed away Thursday, Dec. 31, 2015, at his home with family by his side after a brave fight with cancer.
As per request, cremation was chosen. A memorial service was conducted on Monday, Jan. 4, at the Cozad United Methodist Church with the Rev. Doug Smith officiating. Inurnment was at the Cozad Cemetery with military honors.
Hupf was born Jan. 16, 1936, at Hamlet to Joseph and Elizabeth (Pickering) Hupf. He grew up in McCook and graduated from McCook High School in 1954.
After graduating, he joined the United States Air Force from 1954 to 1959. He was a Tactical Staff Sergeant stationed in Sculthorpe, Norfolk, England.
It was while in England he met the love of his life, Doris Thorpe, according to family members. The couple were married on July 6, 1957, at Norwich, England, at the Catholic Church.
Following his term with the Air Force, he and his wife moved back to the United States where they raised three daughters and a son.
Hupf attended the McCook Community College for two years and worked in the insurance business. After living in various towns in Nebraska, they settled at Cozad in 1972 where he was employed with Bellamy Grain Corp. selling feed to area farmers with livestock operations. He also worked for the City of Cozad before retiring.
After retiring, he obtained his C.D.L. and drove a grain truck for his daughter and son-in-law’s farming operation. He was extremely proud to acquire his license, family said.
?He enjoyed fishing, wood working and golfing with his wife as well as playing on the men’s summer golf league, the family stated. He was actively involved over the years with the Cozad Optimist Club and White Bass Fishing Tournaments. He was also a member of the Cozad Elks Lodge.
Hupf was preceded in death by: his parents, Joseph and Elizabeth; a brother, Robert Hupf; brother-in-law, Carl Nielsen.
Survivors include: his wife, Doris of Cozad; a son, Robert (Beverly Privat) Hupf of Evergreen, CO; his daughters—Sharon (Ed) Goforth of Grand Island, Julie (Jerry) Lambert and Debra (Cody) Peden, all of Cozad; grandchildren—Chris (Stephanie) Goforth of Lincoln, Jennifer (Kyle) Simmons, Kyle Hupf and Trevar Hupf, all of Colorado, Tyler (Amber) Peden, Ethan Lambert and Drew Lambert, all of Cozad, and Chelsea (Justin) Fries of Oxford; great-grandchildren—Hailey Fries, Ayden Ourada, Barrett Peden and Jude Goforth; a brother, John (Sharon) Hupf of Riverton, WY; sisters—Audrey (Harvey) Cole of Curtis and Delores Nielsen of Colorado; nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Central Plains Home Health & Hospice and Care Mates of Cozad.
