Marilyn McClellen, 88 - April 24, 2016

Marilyn Ruth (Johnson) McClellen, 88, of California, originally of Gothenburg, passed away Sunday, April 24, 2016, at her home in Chatsworth, CA, surrounded by her family.
A celebration of life service was conducted on June 16, at Oakwood Memorial Park Chapel in Chatsworth.
McClellen was born at Gothenburg on Feb. 19, 1928, to Leif and Sadie Johnson. She graduated from Gothenburg High School with the Class of 1946, before working as a switchboard operator for the telephone company.
She was united in marriage to Lee Homer McClellen in 1951 and moved along with his career to Huron, SD, and Omaha before ultimately residing in Los Angeles, CA, for the remainder of their years.
McClellen was a consummate homemaker, mother to her five children and part-time bookkeeper before her husband’s death at the age of 53 years. At that time, she became an important team member of Human Resources for the banking concern of Great Western Savings (J.P. Morgan Chase) where she remained until retiring a decade later.
Upon retirement, she devoted herself to being a loving grandmother to her six grandchildren. She was always passionate about classical music and attended many concerts of Pavarotti, Andre Rieu and Andrea Bocelli. A highlight of her travels was trip of a lifetime to visit Scandinavia—the countries of her heritage.
?Family members have fond memories of holiday dinners at her home as she was both an excellent cook and a generous hostess.
She was preceded in death by: her parents, Leif and Sadie; her brothers—Paul, Leif Jr. and Wayne; a sister, LaVawn.
Survivors include: her children—Mark (Anne MacDonald) of McCall, ID, Marilee (Michael Mellon) of Sherman Oaks, Kristen (Bruce Smith) of Grand Junction, CO, Kim Myer of Chatsworth and Lori (Robert DeLapp) of Studio City; grandchildren—Mary-Catherine Mellon, John-Lee Mellon, Ian Smith, Alec Smith, Leif Myer and Sophie DeLapp.
