Ronald Sobotka, 94 - June 26, 2016

Ronald “Ron” Daniel Sobotka, 94, of Grand Island, formerly of Gothenburg, passed away Sunday, June 26, 2016, at Grand Island.
Graveside services were conducted at Fort McPherson National Cemetery on Thursday, June 30, at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Joel Plisek officiating. Interment followed at the Fort McPherson National Cemetery near Maxwell.
Sobotka was born Dec. 17, 1921, at Bee, son of Ernest and Albina (Divis) Sobotka.
He served his country with the U.S. Navy from August 1942 to September 1945.
On Feb. 28, 1942, he married Helen Jordan. To this union, two sons were born.
In 1969, Sobotka and his family moved to Cozad where he owned and managed Ron’s IGA. He then sold to Blaine Peterson at which time he went to work for Peterson’s Supermarket where he was the store manager and employee for over 40 years.
?Sobotka was an avid sports fan and loved the Huskers and the Cubs, as well as fishing when time allowed, according to family members.
?He was preceded in death by: his wife, Helen Elizabeth Sobotka; a sister, Eve E. Wood; and his parents, Ernest and Albina.
Survivors include: his two sons—Terry (Ursula) Sobotka of Lincoln and Jim Sobotka of Grand Island; three grandchildren—David Sobotka and Melissa (Darnell) Delaney, all of Lincoln, Cindy Sobotka of Omaha and and Melissa (Darnell) Delaney of Lincoln; nine great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
