Duane Peterson, 88 - July 01, 2016

Duane Glenn Peterson, 88, of Gothenburg passed away Friday, July 1, 2016, at Hilltop Estates in Gothenburg.
Services took place at the Evangelical Free Church on Wednesday, July 6, at 10 a.m. with the Rev. Robert Litzenberger officiating. Interment followed at the New Hope Cemetery at Gothenburg.
Peterson was born June 25, 1928, on his grandfather’s farmstead in Custer county, son of Harry Ernest Peterson and Mabel Concordia Peterson.
He grew up on the family farm north of Gothenburg in the New Hope Community, and attended elementary school at New Hope School, graduating from Gothenburg High School in 1946.
As a young man, he excepted Jesus Christ as his personal Lord and Savior, according to family members, and was a lifelong attendee of New Hope Evangelical Free Church.
He married Lavonne Peterson on Sept. 2, 1951, at Free Mission Church in Gothenburg. To this union, five children were born.
Peterson was a life-long farmer and rancher and enjoyed attending livestock sales as well as attending his children’s and grandchildren’s sporting events, stated the family.
He was preceded in death by: his parents, Harry and Mabel; his daughter, Brenda Gilg; a grandson, Matthew Peterson; brothers—Don and Gene Peterson; an infant sister, Barbara Kay Peterson.
?Survivors include: his wife, Lavonne of Gothenburg; three sons—Dan (Rhonda) Peterson, Mick (Corriene) Peterson, all of Gothenburg, and Steve Peterson of Seward; his daughter, Susan (Glenn) Ashcraft of Malaga, Spain; 13 grandchildren—Derek, Casey, Megan, Andrew, Christopher, Amber, Kayla, Hannah, Pete, Jake, Madison, Tristan and Ella; nine great-grandchildren; a sister, JoAnn (Boyd) Phillippi of Cozad; sisters-in-law—Janey Peterson of Lincoln and Margilu Peterson of Cozad; numerous nieces, nephews and extended family members.
