Elvin Gardner, 88 - August 09, 2016

Elvin D. Gardner, 88, of Farnam passed away Tuesday, Aug. 9, 2016, at his home in Farnam.
Services took place at the Farnam United Methodist Church on Monday, Aug. 15, with the Rev. Neil Kloppenborg officiating. Burial was at the Farnam Cemetery.
Gardner was born May 28, 1928, at Farnam to Clyde and Jennie Johnson Gardner. He spent his childhood on a family farm south of Farnam, and graduated from Farnam High School in 1945.
He was employed as a mechanic at the Ford Garage, Deavers in Gothenburg and at Hi-Line Implement of Eustis soon after graduation.
On July 10, 1955, he was united in marriage to Marilyn Peirsol Gardner. The couple moved to a farm south of Farnam where he farmed, which included dairy cows and a mechanic shop. He was also a contract mail carrier for several years.
In 1960, he and his wife were blessed with a little girl, Launa Kay, who became their daughter. In 1961, a little boy, Tracy Lee, also joined their family.
Gardner retired in 1990 and the couple moved to Farnam in 1993. The first year following their retirement, he and his wife worked at Yellowstone Park. Eventually, he got back to being a mechanic, which he enjoyed, according to family members.
?He and his wife also enjoyed traveling the country and spending winters in the south.
?Gardner was a NASCAR fan and also liked photography, taking numerous wedding and nature pictures, the family stated.
?He was preceded in death by: his parents, Clyde and Jennie; his sister, Eula Weathers.
Survivors include: his wife of 6l years, Marilyn; a daughter, Launa (Bradley) Hopkins of Almena, KS; a son, Tracy (Teresa) Gardner of Curtis; five grandchildren—Nathan (Staci) Hopkins and their children—Rhiley Fiene, Wyatt Fiene, Cort Fiene and CJ Fiene, Ryan (Brittany) Hopkins and their child, Owen Hopkins, Amanda Hopkins, Miranda Johnson and family and Jordan Gardner (Sierra).
