Richard Maurer, 74 - September 24, 2016

Richard Douglas Maurer, 74, of Gothenburg passed away Saturday, Sept. 24, 2016, at his son’s home in Gothenburg.
Services took place at the American Lutheran Church on Monday, Oct. 3, at 10:30 a.m. with the Rev. Jon Mapa officiating. Interment was at the Peckham Cemetery at Gothenburg.
Maurer was born Jan. 23, 1942, at Gothenburg to Collis and Edna (Davis) Maurer.
He served his country with the National Guard from 1963 to 1970, and was honorably discharged.
Maurer married Carol Slack on Sept. 5, 1965. To this union, three sons were born, Troy, Jason and Greg. The couple later divorced.
On Oct. 14, 1995, he married Judy Goodwin. They were later divorced.
He was employed as a truck driver for NSG. He also served on the Gothenburg Honor Guard for numerous years.
Maurer was an avid outdoorsman, he loved hunting and fishing but especially enjoyed trap shooting, according to family members. He also enjoyed football and was an avid Husker fan. He loved to make people smile and laugh and was often telling jokes or pulling pranks.
?He was preceded in death by: his parents, Collis and Edna; a brother, George Maurer; a step-son, Casey Goodwin; numerous aunts and uncles.
?Survivors include: his sons—Troy (Kim) Maurer of Gothenburg, Jason (Missy) Maurer and Greg (Nikki) Maurer, all of Phoenix, AZ; nine grandchildren and one great-grandchild; ex-wife, Carol Slack of Gothenburg; step-children—Becky (Ryan) Kort of Gothenburg and Jill (Duane) Abbot of Cozad; six step-grandchildren and one step-great-grandchild; an ex-wife, Judy Goodwin of Gothenburg.
