Russell Williams, 84 - November 14, 2016

Russell L. Williams, 84, of Eustis passed away Monday, Nov. 14, 2016, at the Elwood Care Center.
Services took place at 11 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 18, at the United Methodist Church in Farnam with Greg Boller officiating. Interment was at the Farnam Cemetery with Military honors presented by the U.S. Navy and the Farnam VFW Guard.
A visitation was conducted on Thursday from 1 to 8 p.m. at Blase-Strauser Memorial Chapel at Gothenburg with family members present from 5 to 7 p.m., and in state at the church one hour prior to the service.
Williams was born Dec. 12, 1931, to Clyde Charles and Maude “Daisy” (Garvin) Williams at Ingham. He was the youngest of 10 children.
After his mother’s illness took her life in 1935, he went to live with and was raised by his sister, Virginia and her husband, Jay Rice. He attended Lone Star Country School south of Farnam and was a 1949 graduate of Farnam High School.
He served his country with the United States Navy during the Korean War. He was a firefighter upon the U.S.S. Essex, although he never knew how to swim, according to family members. After being honorably discharged in 1955, he came back to the area to farm.
On April 28, 1956, he married Charlot Davis. To this union, three children were born.
Williams and his wife moved to Eustis in 2010, but he continued farming until his health would no longer allow.
He was a lifelong member of the Nazarene Church in Farnam, and a long-time member of the Eustis school board. He was also a 57-year member of the American Legion Post 288 and Farnam VFW.
?Williams enjoyed life on the farm, watching his children and grandchildren’s sporting events and gathering with neighbors, the family said. He loved coffee and Turtles candy bars.
?He was a devoted father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle and friend, and his genuine smile and contagious laugh will be missed, stated the family.
Williams was preceded in death by: his parents, Clyde and Maude; five brothers; four sisters; numerous other extended family members.
Survivors include: his wife of 60 years, Charlot; his children—Lyanne (Scott) Weissert of Elwood, Brad (Lisa) Williams of Eustis, and Carolyn (Steve) Hovendick of Beatrice; grandchildren—Mark (Katy) Weissert, Mason Weissert, Molly Weissert (fiancé Casey Zimmerman), Derek (Morgan) Williams, Darin Williams, Ansley Williams, Bladen Williams, Samantha (Nick) Thompson, Carly Hovendick and Heath Hovendick; great-granddaughters—Lakyn and Oakley Weissert; sisters-in-law—Jeweldine (Orville) Gaibler, Evelyn Davis and Jean Williams; numerous nieces and nephews and a host of extended family members.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Farnam American Legion, the Church of the Nazarene of Farnam and the Elwood Care Center.
