Lois Rice, 88 - January 18, 2017

Lois Rice, 88, formerly Gothenburg and Farnam, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 18, 2017, at Bethany, OK.
Services were conducted at the Farnam Church of the Nazarene on Saturday, Jan. 28, at 10:30 a.m. Interment was at the Farnam Cemetery.
A visitation will take place at Blase-Strauser Memorial Chapel of Gothenburg on Friday, Jan. 27, from 3 to 7 p.m. with family members present.
Rice was born Oct. 8, 1928, to John and Antonia (Johnson) Oberg at Farnam. She grew up on a family farm south of Farnam and attended the Sunflower College Schoolhouse, graduating from Farnam High School in 1946.
She taught school for two years in one-room school houses before attending and graduating from Northwest Nazarene College at Nampa, ID.
Prior to her senior year in college, on Aug. 29, 1951, she married Earl Rice of Farnam. The couple attended college together before graduating in the spring of 1952.
After graduating, she and her husband returned to Nebraska. First to Oakdale, then Litchfield. Her husband pastored the local Nazarene church while she taught school.
When her father passed away, Rice and her husband returned to Farnam, eventually moving to Corpus Christi and then Del Rio, TX, where they spent over 40 years teaching and preaching. After their retirement in 1993, they moved to Gothenburg, where they became involved in the Hispanic ministry of the Cozad Nazarene Church.
?Rice was preceded in death by: her husband, Earl on June 5, 2005; her parents, John and Antonia Oberg; brothers—Clarence Oberg and Lawrence Oberg; sisters—Ruby Ulrich and Gladys Sukraw.
Survivors include: her son, Jerry (Brenda) Rice of Bethany, OK; her daughters—Janet Rice and Kathy Rice, both of Gothenburg; grandchildren—Joanna Rice, Julie (Daniel) Herrera and Timothy (Marlene) Rice; great-grandchildren—Abigail and Elena Herrera; numerous extended family members.
