Morris Anderson, 93 - September 18, 2009


Morris C. Anderson, 93, of Gothenburg died Monday, Sept. 14, 2009, at Lincoln.
Services were held on Friday, Sept. 18, at the First United Methodist Church of Gothenburg with the Rev. Randall L. Dilts officiating. Burial took place at the Gothenburg Cemetery.
Anderson was born Sept. 8, 1916, to Frank and Lillie (Turnquist) Anderson at the Turnquist farm north of Gothenburg.
He grew up in the Wild Horse Valley area near Brady and attended schools at Spanneth in Brady and graduated from Gothenburg High School in 1934.
Anderson was a lifelong farmer and rancher.
On Oct. 2, 1940, he married Eleanor Monson at Sutherland. To this union, six children were born.
He was a World War II veteran and a member of the Veteran of Foreign Wars, the American Legion and a 50-year plus member of the United Methodist Church.
Anderson also volunteered as a 4-H leader and was a District 100-R school board member for many years. He was also a Farmland Service Cooperative director for 25 years and served on the Gothenburg Cemetery Board as well.
He was preceded in death by: a son, Ed Anderson; sisters—Lenore Montgomery and Charlotte Schroeder; a brother, Richard Anderson; an infant brother, Willard Anderson.
Survivors include: his wife of 68 years, Eleanor; sons—Kent (Ellen) Anderson of Concordia, KS, and Ron (Chris) Anderson of Lincoln; daughters—Shirley Huston of Gothenburg, Janet (John) Lindsteadt of Lincoln and Janel (Dave) Roti of Poway, CA; daughter-in-law, Tori (Jim) Brewer of Flower Mound, TX; 13 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and extended family members.
Memorials are suggested to the First United Methodist Church or donor’s choice.
