Marilyn Peterson, 83 - January 26, 2017

Marilyn E. Peterson, 83, of Cheyenne, WY, formerly of Gothenburg, passed away Thursday Jan. 26, 2017, at the Davis Hospice Center after a brief illness.
Services were conducted on Saturday, Feb. 4, at 2 p.m. at the Wiederspahn-Radomsky Chapel. Cremains were laid to rest at a private family ceremony at Cheyenne Memorial Gardens next to her husband.
Peterson was born March 27, 1933, to Rueben and Gertrude (Fickenscher) Bratten at a farmhouse in the Sandhills of the Wild Horse Valley, north of Brady.
Later, the family moved to a farm north of Gothenburg. She attended elementary school in a one-room rural schoolhouse and graduated eighth grade.
She went on to graduate with honors from Gothenburg High School in 1950. She then attended Denver University and went to nursing school at St. Luke’s Hospital in Denver, graduating with honors as a Registered Nurse in 1954, and a BS degree from DU in 1955.
Her nursing career included working at Children’s Hospital in Denver, CO, DePaul Hospital in Cheyenne, and the Laramie County School District as an elementary school nurse at Davis, Corlett, Cole and Pioneer Park schools.
On Feb. 25, 1955, she married James “Jim” Peterson who was stationed at Lowry Air Force Base. To this union, four sons were born.
Peterson and her husband moved to Cheyenne after his discharge from the Air Force where they resided for the rest of their lives. Her husband preceded her in death on Dec. 3, 2013, after almost 59 years of marriage.
?She and her husband had travelled extensively during retirement, both nationally and internationally.
Peterson enjoyed music, baking, cross stitch, sewing and crafts, according to family, as well as her photo collection of immediate and extended family members.
Survivors include: sisters—Beverly Schmeeckle and Cheryl Rice; her sons—Lance (Ginnie) and Doug (Yvonne), all of Cheyenne, Mick (Monica) of Farmington, NM, and Jeff (Shannon) of Lincoln; grandchildren—Sara (Bill) Beres of Buffalo, WY, Wes (Abbey) Peterson and Aaron Peterson, all of Cheyenne, Lindsey (John) Anzalone of South Sioux City, Zachary (Alicia) Peterson of West Richland, WA, Ryan (Cynthia) Peterson of Johnston, CO, Abbey (Michael) Peatrowsky of Omaha and Brandon Peterson of Lincoln; seven great-grandchildren—Billy, Michael, Nicholas, Daniel, James, Samuel and Ava.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Cheyenne Botanical Garden.
