Kenny Discoe, 78 - September 18, 2009Kenny Discoe, 78, of McCook, formerly of Gothenburg, died Tuesday, Sept. 15, 2009, at the Community Hospital of McCook.
Services were held Friday, Sept. 18, at the Carpenter Breland Funeral Home at McCook. Inurnment will take place at a private family service at a later date.
Discoe was born at North Platte on April 29, 1931, to Evangeline (Pattison) and Harry Kenneth Discoe of rural Brady.
He was baptized into the Methodist Church at the Banner Church of rural Gothenburg and he graduated from Gothenburg High School in 1950.
Discoe married Glenice Gaibler of Eustis at the Banner Church on Sept. 21, 1952. To this union, four children were born.
He served in the U.S. Army from 1951 until 1954, driving a half-track and serving as a motor pool sergeant in Korea during the Korean War.
Discoe worked as a brand inspector with the Nebraska Brand Committee for 49 years, a position he held until his death.
He enjoyed time with his grandchildren and bragging of their achievements as well as enjoying amateur racing on tracks in southwest Nebraska, northwest Kansas and NASCAR, according to family members. He served as pit-crew chief and chief financial officer for his granddaughter Shannon’s cruiser and hobby stock race cars.
Discoe also enjoyed hobbies with his children, said family members, and volunteered as a co-leader of the Bit ‘n’ Spur 4-H horse club.
He was preceded in death by: his parents, Harry and Evangeline Discoe; a special aunt and uncle, Gertrude and Oren “Pat” Patterson.
Survivors include: his wife, Glenice of McCook; three daughters—Barbara Ann Jauken of Lincoln, Connie Jo Discoe of McCook and Cindy Lou (Mark) Fritsche of rural Maywood; a son, Tony Alan Discoe of Irvine, CA; eight grandchildren—Shannon (Craig) Bird of Hastings, Nolan Brown (fiancee Courtney Einspahr) of McCook, Bethany and Whitney Jauken of Lincoln, Jacob and Justin Discoe of Oceanside, CA, and Lydia and Von Fritsche of rural Maywood; sisters-in-law—Peg Hastings of Elwood and Janice Crewdson of Lincoln; brother-in-law, Dennis (Phyllis) Gaibler of Lincoln; cousins—John, Mardi, Pam and Ronnie.
Memorials are suggested to the charity or organization of the donor’s choice.
