John ‘Jack’ Bowers, 70 - September 18, 2009John “Jack” L Bowers, 70, of Gothenburg, died Sept. 17, 2009 at his home in Gothenburg surrounded by his family.
Graveside memorial services will take place in the Curtis Cemetery
Bowers was born on March 17, 1939, to Ad and Flo (Hennig) Bowers at Maquoketa, IA.
He attended school in Cascade, IA. On May 6, 1961, he married Sharon Gentz at Cascade, IA, and they made their home in Monticello, IA. To this union two daughters were born, Kim and Kris.
Bowers worked as a tractor-trailer owner/operator for many years. In 1976 the family moved to Des Moines, IA, were he worked for Ruan Leasing Co. until 1991 when he and Sharon moved to Gothenburg to be closer to the girls and their families. He worked for IBP in Lexington until 1998 when he retired.
He loved horses, his family and woodworking, family members said.
He was preceded in death by father Ad Bowers, mother and father Flo and Art Rigby, sister Sue Siebels and grandson Lane Scott Bryant.
Survivors include: his wife of 48 years, Sharon; daughters—Kim (Allan) Mortensen and Kris (Billy) Bryant, both of Curtis; brothers—Ken (Ruth) Bowers, Dick (Phyllis) Bowers, Larry (Cindy) Rigby; sister Linda (Bill) Meyer; grandsons—Quenton (Tonya) Mortensen, Dillon Mortensen, Clint Bryant; granddaughters—Elizabeth Mortensen, Lacy Bryant; lifetime friend and brother-in-law Russ (Ruth) Gentz; and special friend Larry (Shirley) Mosbach.
