Norman Coder, 80 - April 22, 2017

Norman Kent Coder, 80, of Gothenburg passed away Saturday, April 22, 2017, at the Plum Creek Health Care Community in Lexington.
Services were conducted at the American Lutheran Church of Gothenburg, located at 1512 Ave. G, on Saturday, April 29, at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Jon Mapa officiating. Burial was at the Gothenburg Cemetery.
A visitation took place at Blase-Strauser Memorial Chapel of Gothenburg on Friday, April 28, from 1 to 7 p.m. with family members present from 4 to 6 p.m.
Coder was born at Elwood on June 2, 1936, to John L. Coder and Dorothy (Keller) Coder. He graduated from Elwood Public Schools and worked with his father and grandfather in the cattle and farming business on the Coder Herford Ranch, located at Elwood.
He was a talented carpenter and spent a number of years applying his skills in the Gothenburg area. He was employed with Spelts Lumber Yard of Gothenburg, and later joined Consolidated Freightway until his retirement.
After retiring, he built his home north of Gothenburg where he settled.
Coder never knew a stranger nor forgot a friend and enjoyed collecting western and antique memorabilia as well as passing along a good joke with his somewhat devilish sense of humor, according to family members. He also loved animals and was especially good with horses and cattle.
?He was a life-long member of the Lutheran Church.
?Coder was preceded in death by: his parents, John and Dorothy; a sister, Jane Halsey.
Survivors include: his sister, Judy Neil of Kearney; his sons—Dallas and Bill Coder of Gothenburg; a daughter, Terry (Robert) Tigner of McCook; step-children—Todd (Jami) Koester of Kearney and Christi Koester of Lincoln; grandchildren—Andrea Coder of Denver, CO, Brooke (Matt) Fosket of North Platte and Betsy (Matt) Charts of Grand Junction, CO; great-grandchildren—Sage Hoover and Fletcher Charts, Hudson and Silas Fosket, Madison and Max Koester and Alex and Ashley Koester.
