Betty Volkman, 89 - September 11, 2017

Betty Jean Volkman, 89, of Gothenburg passed away Monday, Sept. 11, 2017, at Saunders Medical Center Long Term Care in Wahoo.
Services were conducted at the First Presbyterian Church of Gothenburg on Friday, Sept. 15, with the Revs. David Boyd and Matt Coplen officiating. Burial was at the Greenwood Cemetery at Lexington.
Volkman was born Dec. 30, 1927, at Lexington, daughter of Clarence and Mildred (Wilsey) Wolfe.
She resided at Lexington until her marriage to Gene Kenneth Volkman on Nov. 23, 1952. To this union, four children were born.
Volkman was a teacher and taught at numerous different schools. The family had resided at New Castle, WY (1952-56), Lexington (1956-68), Gothenburg (1968-77), Hereford, TX (1977-94), back to Gothenburg (1994-2015), and Wahoo, (2015-2017).
She was a member of the Texas Retired Teachers, PEO, Delta Kappa Gamma and the VFW.
Volkman was active with the First Presbyterian Church where she was a Deaconess and sang with the choir.
?She enjoyed Nebraska football, knitting club and the VFW Auxiliary, but most of all she cherished visits from her kids, grandkids and friends, according to family.
?Volkman was preceded in death by: her parents, Clarence and Mildred Wolfe; her husband, Gene in April of 2009; her son, Kenneth; granddaughters—Kaylee and Shannon; sister-in-law, Jeanie Wolfe; son-in-law, Kenneth Wolf.
Survivors include: her daughters—Jeanette Wolf of Lincoln and Darla (LaMonte) Schlake of Gothenburg; her son, David (Kathy) Volkman of Omaha; daughter-in-law, Bev Volkman; 15 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandchild; sister Alice Wolfe; brother, Derald (Peg) Wolfe; numerous extended family members.
Memorials are suggested to the First Presbyterian Church, 1020 Lake Ave., Gothenburg, NE 69138.
