Dolores Viergutz, 92 - March 15, 2018

Dolores Viergutz, 92, of Lincoln, formerly of Gothenburg, died Thursday, March 15, at The Independence House in Lincoln.
Funeral services were Wednesday, March 21, at St. John the Apostle Catholic Church in Lincoln. Graveside services were March 21 at the Gothenburg Cemetery.
Josephine Dolores Viergutz was born March 7, 1926, at Randolph, to Joseph and Gwendolyn (Anderson) Kunzman. She graduated from Randolph St. Frances High School and attended a business school in Omaha.
She married Vance Viergutz on May 25, 1946. Together they published the Coleridge Blade for 13 years and the Randolph Times for 11 years before the couple moved to Lincoln in 1971. There, she was a proofreader for Joe Christensen Printing, a law review printing company. They moved to Gothenburg, where her husband and son Greg became co-publishers of the Gothenburg Times. She became involved in the newspaper upon her husband’s death in 1982 before retiring in 1985.
Dolores was active in Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church in Gothenburg and also served on the Gothenburg Library Board. She enjoyed gardening, reading (especially newspapers, thoroughly) and becoming a friend with whomever she met. She was a life-long Nebraska Cornhuskers fan, attending games regularly from the 1940s until her health prevented it. One of the great joys of her life was spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Vance on Feb. 23, 1982; parents; and siblings Duane, Annette, Joseph and Mary.
Survivors include: daughter, Linda (Charles) Sukup of Navarre, Fla; son, Greg (Kathi) Viergutz of Lincoln; five grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren; sister, Gloria (Gene) Packer of McClouth, Kan.; brother, Jim (Carolyn) Kunzman of Tampa, Fla.
Memorials are suggested to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, American Heart Association or donor’s choice.
Butherus, Maser & Love Funeral Home of Lincoln was in charge of the arrangements.
