Bruce Findlay, 80 - November 26, 2008


Bruce Findlay, 80, of Gothenburg, died Thursday, Nov. 20, 2008, at Gothenburg Memorial Hospital.
Services were held on Monday, Nov. 24, at the First Baptist Church in Gothenburg with the Rev. Bill Ivey officiating. Burial took place at the Gothenburg Cemetery.
Findlay was born on Jan. 6, 1928, at Gothenburg to Neil and Edna (Urie) Findlay. He grew up on the family farm and graduated from Gothenburg High School.
He served his country in the Army during 1952-1954. Following his discharge, he returned to farming and ranching on the family farm.
On Aug. 29, 1965, he was united in marriage to Rose Marie Hudson at Gothenburg. To this union, two children were born.
In 1993, he and his wife were awarded the Ak-Sar-Ben Pioneer Award.
Findlay enjoyed life on the farm and ranch, he was proud of the fact he raised his children on the same land his grandparents homesteaded in 1893, according to family members. He took special interest in cattle and horses, and enjoyed rodeos and participating in hand cornhusking contests.
?He also enjoyed playing a game of cards and inventing things for the farm, being especially proud of a horse-drawn rake that he made to turn alfalfa, said family members.
?Findlay was preceded in death by: his parents, Neil and Edna; a sister, Alice; two sisters-in-law.
?Survivors include: his wife, Rose; a son, Charles (Janine) Findlay of Lincoln; a daughter, Lisa Findlay of Gothenburg; three grandchildren—Taylor, Logan and Addison; two sisters-in-law—Mary Millsap and Virginia Hudson, both of Gothenburg; special friend, Clyde Kotschwar of Farnam; numerous other family members and friends.
Memorials are suggested to the American Lung Association.
