Paul Lenz, 86 - October 01, 2009
Paul Lenz, 86, of Curtis died Sunday, Sept. 27, 2009, at Gothenburg Memorial Hospital.
Services were held Sept. 30 at the St. John’s Lutheran Church at Curtis with the Rev. Paul Warneke officiating. Burial was at the Moorefield Cemetery.
Lenz was born Sept 4, 1923, to Paul Herman and Katie May Lenz at Moorefield. He attended Moorefield Public School, graduating in 1941.
He was united in marriage on March 22, 1947, to Iona Faye Earhart at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Moorefield. To this union, nine children were born.
Lenz farmed for many years and worked at Monroe Tenneco plant in Cozad for 17 years before retiring in 1988.
He was active in his community as well as the St. John’s Lutheran Church of Curtis. He taught Sunday school for many years, and in his later years, he was honored to serve as an elder of his church.
Lenz’s pride a joy were his children and grandchildren, according to family members. He was an avid reader and enjoyed music, dancing, playing cards and spending time with close friends and family. In his younger years, he was known to play Santa Claus at the grade school in Moorefield.
He was preceded in death by: his parents, Paul and Katie; a brother, Arthur; sisters-in-law—Elsie Lenz and Ella Lenz; brother-in-law, Leonard Earhart; numerous other relatives.
Survivors include: his wife of 63 years, Iona of Moorefield; his children—Cheri (Jim) Bopp of Culbertson, Kenneth (Susie) Lenz of Gothenburg, Dale (Laura) Lenz of Oxford, IA, Dwight (Nancy) Lenz and Jeff (Kimberly) Lenz, all of Maywood, Kevin (Brenda) Lenz of Seward, Les (Robin) Lenz of Papillion, Katie Lenz of Alliance, and Dennis (Tracy) Lenz of Stillwater, NY; a brother, Gerald Lenz of Curtis; sister-in-law, Carrie Earhart Moorefield; 15 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; special friends—Larry and Jan Messersmith of Maywood, and Mark and Turena Ehlers of Moorefield.
Memorials are suggested to the St John’s Lutheran Church of Curtis.
