Harvey Finke, 89 - October 22, 2008
Harvey W. Finke, 89, of Gothenburg passed away on Oct. 17, 2008, at the Gothenburg Memorial Hospital.
Funeral services were held on Tuesday, Oct. 21, at the American Lutheran Church in Gothenburg with the Rev. Matthew Groenke and Lonna Grabenstein, PMA., officiating.
Burial took place in the American Lutheran Cemetery.
Finke was born on Oct. 12, 1919, to William and Ada (Retzlaff) Finke at Lincoln.
He attended school in Walton where he graduated in 1938. After high school he went to work on the family farm.
On Sept. 17, 1950, he married Elaine Lauer at the Christ Lutheran Church in Gothenburg. To this union two sons were born, Glenn and Craig. The Finkes lived on the family farm in Walton until moving north of Cozad in 1957. They later moved to Gothenburg in 1977.
Finke was a member of the American Lutheran Church and was on the church council. He was on the Extension board, the school board and was a 4-H leader. He enjoyed playing cards, especially with his pitch club and he was always up for a cup of coffee, family members said.
?He was preceded in death by: his parents; a sister, Mildred; three brothers—Melvin and his wife Emma, Vern and his wife Iola and Albert and his wife Eva.
?Finke is survived by: his wife of 58 years Elaine; two sons—Glenn and his wife Sue of Cozad and Craig and his wife Mary of Cozad; six grandchildren—Adam and his wife Deanna Finke of Gothenburg, Annie and her husband George Cornwell of Gothenburg, Anthony Finke of Kearney, Maren Finke of Cozad, Shelby Finke of Cheyenne, WY, Macy Finke of Cozad; two great-grandchildren—Emily and Madison Cornwell of Gothenburg; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Memorials are suggested to American Lutheran Church or Donor’s Choice.
