Shirley Vickers, 71 - October 14, 2009
Shirley Eileen Vickers, 71, of Farnam died Friday, Oct. 9, 2009, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney.
Services will be held Friday, Oct. 16, at 10:30 a.m. at the Farnam United Methodist Church with the Rev. Tess Hufford officiating.
Vickers was born April 16, 1938, to Herbert and Zella (Adkisson) Messersmith in rural Frontier County. She graduated from Farnam High School in 1956.
On May 27, 1956, she was united in marriage to Tom Vickers at the First Baptist Church in Gothenburg. To this union, three children were born.
She and her husband resided at Farnam, and for the past 30 years also maintained a residence in Lincoln.
Vickers had an indomitable spirit and a happy nature which carried her through several heart surgeries and an assortment of serious illnesses in the past 30 years with courage, according to family members.
She was an avid partner in ranching and lobbying business until her passing.
Vickers was preceded in death by: her parents, Herbert and Zella Messersmith.
Survivors include: her husband, Tom; a daughter, Cindy (Doug) Hobelman of Gothenburg; sons—Mark (Pat) Vickers of Farnam and Matt (Nancy) Vickers of Arnold; granddaughters—Lisa (Jay) Lindholm, Valerie (Ray) Ferris and Megan Frazho; grandsons—Rudy (Trish) Vickers, Kevin (Jes) Vickers, Eric Vickers, Zach Frazho and Cameron Frazho; great-grandchildren—Tracy Jay, Skyeanna, Rhett Lindholm, Drew and Charli Vickers, Clayton Vickers Drake Ferris and her brother, Keith (Lea) Messersmith of Farnam; numerous family members and a host of friends.
Memorials are suggested to the American Red Cross or American Heart Association.
