Ina Slack, 91 - June 25, 2008
Ina Slack, 91, of Gothenburg, died Tuesday, June 17, 2008, at Gothenburg Memorial Hospital Long-Term.
Services were held on Friday, June 20, at Banner United Methodist Church of Gothenburg with the Rev. Janie Freeman officiating. Burial took place at the Peckham Cemetery.
Slack was born Dec. 16, 1916, at Grand Island, to Barent (Bud) Christian and Elsie Delight (Pierce) Newtson. She and her family moved to North Platte in 1918, and she attended school at District 31 Pleasant View and graduated from North Platte High School in 1937.
She was united in marriage to Gerald Floyd Slack on Aug. 28, 1938, at his parent’s home southeast of Brady. To this union, five children were born.
Slack and her husband resided south of Brady and also Gothenburg, later moving north of Gothenburg where they made there home until moving to town.
In July of 2007, she moved to Stone Hearth Estates and lived there until moving to Gothenburg Long Term in February of 2008.
She was a member of the Banner United Methodist Church for over 50 years, the SSS Club (Sunny SouthSide), and the Co-Burg Extension Club.
?Slack had enjoyed quilting, embroidery work and crocheting, family members said.
?She was preceded in death by: her parents, Barent and Elsie; husband, Gerald in 1998; son, Gary in 2001; two brothers—Melvin and Russell Newtson; sister, Lucille Grover.
?Survivors include: three sons—G. Dean (Pam) of Curtis, Ronnie (Connie) of Callaway, and Eugene of Cheyenne, WY; a daughter, Donna (John) Hazen of Farnam; 12 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren; two sisters—Vera (LeRoy) Fosbinder of North Platte and Lorena Millsap of Broken Bow; numerous nieces and nephews.
Memorials are suggested to Banner United Methodist Church and the Gothenburg Senior Center.
