Sylvia Hazel Ostrom, 92 - January 16, 2008
Sylvia Hazel Ostrom, 92, of Lexington, formerly of Gothenburg, died Tuesday, Jan. 8, 2008.
Services were held on Thursday, Jan. 10, at the First Baptist Church of Gothenburg with the Rev. Larry Viter and Ostrom’s son, the Rev. Grant J. Ostrom officiating. Burial took place at the Gothenburg Cemetery.
Ostrom was born on Feb. 18, 1915, at Beaver Crossing to John and Josephine (Krasomil) Pettijohn. She graduated high school salutatorian in 1933 at Trenton.
She was united in marriage to Harry Ostrom on Oct. 15, 1936, at Denver. To this union, three children were born.
Ostrom and her husband moved back to his family’s farm north of Gothenburg on the Tallin Table shortly after they were married. The couple farmed there until 1981 when they moved into Gothenburg. They lived in Gothenburg until 1998 then moved to Lexington.
?She put her faith and trust in the Lord Jesus as a child, and had a gift of studying God’s Word and teaching Sunday School for over 50 years, according to family members.
?Ostrom was preceded in death by: her husband, Harry; daughters-in-law—Annette Ostrom and Connie Ostrom; a grandson, Kurt Ostrom; four sisters—Lucy Davis, Irene Egleston, Esther Davis and Gladys Fredrickson; two brothers—Fielding and Charles Pettijohn.
Survivors include: her three children—John Ostrom of Lexington, Grant (Anita) Ostrom of Tennessee and Cherry (Vern) Kuhlman of Colorado Springs, CO; nine grandchildren—Anne Eilers, Lars Ostrom, Leif Ostrom, David Ostrom, Kurt Ostrom, Timothy Ostrom, Trae Strube, Michael Kuhlman and Keith Kuhlman; 14 great-grandchildren.
