Clifford McCaslin, 62 - January 09, 2008
Clifford McCaslin, 62, of Kearney, formerly of Gothenburg, died Sunday, Dec. 30, 2007, at Hays Medical Center at Hays, KS.
Services were held on Wednesday, Jan. 2, 2008, at Our Saviour Lutheran Church at Broken Bow with the Revs. Kathy Salts and Kathy LaRocque officiating. Burial was at the Broken Bow Cemetery.
McCaslin was born on Nov. 26, 1945, at home near Broken Bow to James Wesley (Wes) and Evelyn (Clay) McCaslin.
He attended school at Broken Bow and Merna and graduated from Gothenburg High School in 1964.
On Oct. 4, 1964, he married Donna Goodner. The couple resided at Overton, Cozad and Kimball while he was employed with the Union Pacific Railroad until he retired in 1980. The family then moved to Anselmo where he worked as a carpenter.
McCaslin married Jessie Lindstrom at Holdrege on Sept. 15, 1990. The couple resided at Merna.
On May 6, 2005, he married Karolyn Bitter-Mason at Kearney where they lived until his death.
He had enjoyed dancing, spending time with family, playing cards and building model trains, according to family members. He was a skilled carpenter and enjoyed building and remodeling homes as well.
McCaslin was preceded in death by: his parents, James and Evelyn; a brother, Edward; a sister, Mary Neben; brothers-in-law—Ed Goodner, Kenny Purdum and Rudy Neben; a great-nephew; former in-laws, Wayne and Bertie Goodner.
Survivors include: his wife, Karolyn of Kearney; sons—Jerry (Julie) McCaslin of Kearney and James (Tammy) McCaslin of Broken Bow; a daughter, Rebecca (David) Smith of Louisville; step-children—Brenda Bitter of Victoria, KS, Brian (Melissa) Bitter and Bruce (Carrie) Bitter, all of Hoisington, KS, Brent Bitter of Holyrood, KS, Doug Lindstrom, Scott (Monica) Lindstrom and Jim Lindstrom, all of Columbus, and Susan and Jeff Sall of Iowa City, IA; brothers—Dan McCaslin of Broken Bow, Wesley Curtis McCaslin of Hershey and Daryl McCaslin of North Platte; sisters—Audrey Jones of Thedford, Ardis Goodner of Broken Bow, Cleo Purdum of Reedpoint, MT, Beverly Goehring of Cheyenne, WY, and Leata Krejci of Eustis; grandchildren—Tara, Jordan, Brady and Carter McCaslin, Dylan Bonde and Lexis McCaslin, Emily and Zachary Smith; a great-granddaughter, Adyn McCaslin; step-grandchildren—Christopher Bitter, Julie Bitter, Danielle and Brad Johnson, Bradon and Kayleigh Bitter, Jamie, Morgan and Nathan Bitter and Kyle Lindstrom; sisters-in-law—Joyce McCaslin, Eula McCaslin and Jan McCaslin; brothers-in-law—Hap Jones, Jim Goehring and Boyd Krejci; numerous nieces and nephews.
Memorials are suggested to Our Savior Lutheran Church building fund.
