Lucille Fritch, 87 - November 07, 2007

Lucille Oneta Fritch, 87, of Gothenburg died Thursday, Oct. 25, 2007, at Hilltop Estates in Gothenburg.
Fritch was born on July 6, 1920, at Dubois, to Henry and Elizabeth (Wissler) Hunzeker. She attended a country school in rural Pawnee County, completing the eighth grade.
Following the untimely death of her father in 1936, she stayed at home to help her mother with the day-to-day tasks of running a household with three older brothers and one older sister.
On Oct. 12, 1940, she married A. Edwin Fritch, at the Johnson County Courthouse at Tecumseh. To this union, two sons were born.
Fritch and her husband farmed east of Table Rock until they moved to town in 1994. Together with Ed’s sister and her husband, Mildred and Art Meier, they owned and operated the A & E Bar for 15 years before selling it in 1964.
In 1997, she and her husband moved to an apartment in Gothenburg to be closer to family. Even though they had never lived anywhere but Table Rock in their adult lives, they accepted the move as a new adventure and quickly made new friends in Gothenburg, the family said.
In 2006, she moved to Hilltop Estates and remained there until her death.
Fritch was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and both she and Ed enjoyed a good polka dance. Family was always important to her and she would ask about her grandchildren and great-grandchildren everyday, said family members.
She was preceded in death by: her parents, Henry and Elizabeth; her husband, Edwin in 2001; three brothers—Vern, Lyle and Leland; a sister, Noma Schuetz.
Survivors include: her two sons—Gary (Mary) of Gothenburg and Barry of Westminster, CO; grandchildren—John and Trudy Fritch of Dike, IA, Bret and Jeannie Fritch of Omaha, Mark and Jamie Fritch of Papillion and Ben Fritch of Westminster; great-grandchildren—Garrett, Byron, Eric, Nick, Jack and Kalan; sister-in-law, Goldie Hunzeker; numerous other family and friends.
