Betty Marchand, 72 - September 12, 2007
Betty Anne Marchand, 72, of Gothenburg, died Sunday, Sept. 9, 2007, at Gothenburg.
Services were held Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church in Gothenburg with the Rev. Matt Coplen officiating.
Marchand was born on July 13, 1935, to James Newton and Nellie Nutt McKim, at Gothenburg.
She attended school and graduated from Gothenburg High School in 1953.
Marchand was united in marriage to Doug in 1960. She and her husband worked at a ranch in the sand hills where she cooked for the ranch hands. The couple later divorced.
On Oct. 12, 1974, she married Lupe Gonzalez. She and her husband helped to take care of her aging parents during their illnesses. He died in April of 1994.
She then married Henry “Frenchie” Marchand in August of 1995, who later died in April of 1997.
Marchand was a hard worker, according to family members. She began working as a nurse’s aide in the Gothenburg hospital. She then took classes at the Cozad Nursing Home to dispense medications, and worked as a CSM in nursing for 52 years.
She enjoyed camping and fishing with her family at the canals in Elwood, Gothenburg and Brady, according to family members. She also enjoyed cooking and crocheting for family and friends.
?Marchand had a love for animals and numerous strays were taken into her home where her dogs and cats were considered her family, said family members.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husbands.
Survivors include: two sisters—Alice (Don) Leggott of Elwood and Jeannine (Bill) Miller of Lexington; two brothers—Gordan Lee McKim of Beatrice and David Bradley (Mary) McKim of Maxwell; numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
Memorials are suggested to the First Presbyterian Church of Gothenburg.
