Ellen Bohlman, 80 - August 29, 2007
Ellen Bohlman, 80, of Gothenburg died Thursday, Aug. 23, 2007.
Services were held on Monday, Aug. 27, at the American Lutheran Church of Gothenburg with the Rev. Matthew Groenke and Lonna Grabenstien PMA officiating.
Bohlman was born on May 10, 1927, at River Falls, WI, to Carl Caster and Jennie (Martin) Wiff.
She attended local schools and graduated from high school at Ellsworth, WI, in 1945. She graduated from nursing school at Lutheran Deaconess Hospital, followed by earning a bachelor degree at St. Olaf College at Northfield, MN. She taught nursing school at St. Paul, MN, and the Presbyterian Hospital in Denver.
In 1953, she was united in marriage to E. Harold Evenson. To this union, three sons were born.
She married Heino Bohlman in 1987, and lived in Colorado Springs for nine years. She then moved to Gothenburg in 1996.
Bohlman was an active member of the American Lutheran Church and served on multiple church committees, her favorite being the visitation committee. She played bridge and belonged to several book clubs as well as volunteering at the elementary school, the Senior Center and the library.
She enjoyed reading, gardening, art, music, travel and tennis as well as watching sports, according to family members. She had played competitive dual tennis during the ages of 40-50. She also enjoyed skiing, particularly learning to ski as a child in Wisconsin. She had continued to ski nearly every year until the age of 79.
?Bohlman was preceded in death by: her parents, Carl and Jennie; her step-mother; a sister, Susan.
?Survivors include: her sons—Eric (Carolyn) Evenson of Gothenburg, Tom (Cindee) Evenson of Freeman, SD, and Curt (Julie) Evenson of Springfield, MO; nine grandchildren and one grand-son-in-law; sister, Shirley (Russell) Schutt of Kirkhoven, MN; brothers—Charles (Barbara) Wiff of Spring Valley, WI, and Thomas (Betty) Wiff of Balsam Lake, WI.
Memorials are suggested to American Lutheran Church.
