Irma Brent, 98 - June 13, 2007
Irma A. Brent, 98, of Elwood, formerly of Gothenburg, died Friday, June 8, 2007, at the Elwood Care Center.
Services were held on Tuesday, June 12, at the Parkview Baptist Church at Lexington with the Rev. John Shields officiating. Burial was at the Peckham Cemetery, south of Gothenburg.
Brent was born on Aug. 21, 1908, at Invale, to Harry and Hazel Shelly Tunison. She attended rural school at Invale.
In July of 1932, she married Ralph Putnam. The couple made their home in Gothenburg until her husband’s passing in 1957.
In 1967, Irma married Willard Brent at Lincoln. The couple made their home in several places throughout Nebraska including Lincoln and Beaver City. Following his passing in 1991, she moved to Elwood.
Throughout her moves, Irma remained committed to her job as a nurse’s aid where she had served at Gothenburg, Lincoln and Kearney.
Brent was a member of the First Baptist Church of Gothenburg and an attendant of the Brethren Church while she lived at Beaver City. She was also a member of the Garden Club as well as the VFW.
?She loved her family and enjoyed crocheting and ceramics, according to family members.
?Brent was preceded in death by her first and second husbands, four sons and a daughter as well as three grandsons and two granddaughters.
Survivors include: her son, Richard (Betty) Putnam of Gayville, SD; daughters—Patsy (Fred) Martin of Elwood, Connie (Jim) Carbaugh of Lexington and Anna (John) Leithoff of Ravenna; sisters—Shirley Skaggs of Boys Ranch, TX, and Leona Shacklin of CA; 32 grandchildren, 80 great-grandchildren and numerous great-great-grandchildren.
