Helen Ostergard, 90 - March 28, 2007
Ostergard was born Sept. 22, 1916, in Custer County, north of Gothenburg. She married Eugene John Ostergard on June 30, 1937.
The Ostergards were partners, farming north of Gothenburg in Etna through the late 1990’s, at which time they retired to Gothenburg. Helen successfully turned a hobby, sewing, into a profession and was well known for her meticulous abilities as a seamstress through the years, family members said.
She was preceded in death by: her parents, Albert and Emma Anderson; her husband Eugene; a grandson, J. Michael Saxton; two sisters, Emelyn Bonde and Eunice Edson; and two brothers, Milton and Lawrence Anderson.
She is survived by: daughter Sue (Bob Blevens) Ostergard of Seward; son Dan Ostergard of Omaha; grandchildren—Doug (Angela) Saxton of Omaha, Tim Saxton of Colorado Springs, CO, Jon (Jodi) Blevens of Thousand Oaks, CA, and Katie Stroup of Seward; great grandchildren—Jordan and Ethan Saxton of Omaha and Parker Stroup of Seward; sister Elda Kohls of Fort Collins, CO; brother and sisters-in-law, Gage and Sara Jane Ostergard of Gothenburg and Virginia Sitorius of Cozad; and many nieces and nephews.
The family suggests memorials be made in Helen’s name to the J. Michael Saxton Health Care Scholarship Fund or the Gothenburg Senior Center.
The family would like to gather stories and remembrances for inclusion in a memory book. Please e-mail them to hostergard@yahoo.com. Services are pending and will be announced at a later date.
