William Minor Lyne, 78 - February 07, 2007
William Minor Lyne, 78, of North Platte, died Wednesday, Jan. 31, 2007, at the Nebraska Heart Institute of Lincoln.
A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 9, 2007, at Odean Colonial Chapel at C & Sycamore with the Rev. Larry Viter of the Faith Chapel of Gothenburg officiating.
Inurnment for Lyne and his wife, Patricia who died Jan. 27, will be at Ft. McPherson National Cemetery with military honors.
A memorial book is available for signing through Thursday from 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Odean Colonial Chapel at C & Sycamore, and before the memorial service on Friday.
Lyne, known to family and friends as Minor, was born on April 24, 1928, at Jewell County, KS, to Glen Scott and Lela Mae Renkin Lyne.
He grew up in Jewell County and moved with his family to Superior at an early age. The family settled in Gothenburg where he was a member of the graduating class of 1946, graduating at mid-term to be able to enlist in the U.S. Navy. He traveled many countries while serving in the Atlantic, Mediterranean and Pacific Oceans.
On June 5, 1949, he married Patricia Elaine Sorensen, known to family and friends as Pat, at the First Evangelical Lutheran Church at North Platte. The couple made their home in Gothenburg where he was employed by his father in the family electrical business.
?In 1967, the family moved to North Platte where he later opened a business, Agri Industrial Electric. He and his wife worked together in the family business.
?Lyne and his wife retired in 1996 and traveled the United States in a motor home as members of the Escapee RV’rs Club, eventually settling at Lakewood, NM, until March of 2003, when they returned to North Platte.
He enjoyed hunting, according to family members, and was a life member of the N.R.A., B.P.O. Elks 985, P.R. Halligan Post 163 American Legion and Ercoupe.
Lyne was preceded in death by: his parents, Glen and Lela; his wife, Patricia on Jan. 27, 2007.
Survivors include: four children—Steve (Karen) Lyne of McCook, Don Lyne of Superior, Kellie (Hank) Mercer of North Platte and Tamie (Rod) Martin of Littleton, CO; a brother, Vaughn Lyne of Broken Bow; 10 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; 17 nieces and nephews; numerous cousins and friends.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Callahan Cancer Center and St. Jude’s Children Hospital.
