Eileen Janssen, 82 - July 08, 2009
Eileen R. Janssen, 82, of Gothenburg died Wednesday, July 1, 2009, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney.
Services were held on Monday, July 6, at the American Lutheran Church of Gothenburg with the Revs. Gerald Gengenbach (nephew) and Matthew Groenke and Lonna Grabenstein, PMA, officiating. Burial took place at the American Lutheran Cemetery.
Janssen was born April 27, 1927, to G.F. and Emma (Gruber) Gengenbach at Eustis. She attended and graduated from Eustis High School and Kearney State Teachers College. She was a rural Dawson County school teacher for five years.
On June 5, 1949, she was united in marriage to Wayne Janssen at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Eustis. To this union, four sons were born.
She and her husband lived and raised their family on a farm northeast of Gothenburg after which they moved to town in 1988. She assisted in the operation of the family farm for her entire life.
Janssen was a member of the American Lutheran Church where she taught Sunday School, was a member of the Adult Bell Choir and directed the Youth Bell Choir for many years. She was also a member of the Women of the Church, American Lutheran Quilters and various card clubs. She enjoyed cooking and sewing, according to family members.
?She was preceded in death by: her parents, G.F. and Emma; an infant son, Kent; brother, Walter Gengenbach; grandson, John Janssen.
?Survivors include: her husband of 60 years, Wayne; sons—Gregory (Barbara) Janssen of Minneapolis, MN, Gaylan Janssen of Gothenburg, and Kurt Janssen of Washington, DC; a brother, Floyd (Bernice) Gengenbach of Eustis; two grandchildren—Sarah (Rick) Lurk and Matthew (Kate Berry) Janssen; three great-grandchildren—Ashley, Jeremy and Jordan Janssen.
Memorials are suggested to the American Lutheran Church or to the organization of donor’s choice.
