Virge Buzz Stebbins, Jr., 79 - June 17, 2009
Virge “Buzz” Wilcox Stebbins, Jr., 79, of Gothenburg passed away on June 6, 2009, at Gothenburg Memorial Hospital.
A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 27, at the First United Methodist Church in Gothenburg.
He was born on March 11, 1930, to Virge and Florence (Brooks) Stebbins in Gothenburg. He graduated from Gothenburg High School, and he attended the University of Nebraska at Lincoln for two years.
On Aug. 19, 1950, he married Ann Webster in Lincoln. To this union two sons were born, Matt and Scott. The couple lived in Gothenburg all their married life except during Buzz’s service in the Army.
A lifelong rancher, Stebbins formerly owned Stebbins Implement and Old West Realty. He was working for Gothenburg Realty at the time of his death.
Stebbins enjoyed raising tomatoes, golfing, playing pitch and fishing. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Platte Valley Lodge #32 Free Masons in North Platte, the National Association of Realtors and Wild Horse Golf Club.
He is survived by: his sons—Matt (Lois) Stebbins of McCook and Scott Stebbins of Des Moines, IA; granddaughter—Adriane (Jeremiah Jackson) Stebbins of Cardiff, CA; grandsons—Eton (Vanya) Stebbins of Lincoln, Wyatt Stebbins of McCook; brother John (Ruth) Stebbins of Walla Walla, WA; sisters-in-law—Curley Stebbins of Helena, MT, Janet Turner of Chandler, AZ, and Lynn Darling of Lincoln.
He was preceded in death by wife Ann Stebbins, brother Wesley Stebbins, sister Marilyn Dean and his parents.
Memorials are suggested in lieu of flowers; donations may be made to the First United Methodist Church Roofing Fund.
