Gage Ostergard, 88 - September 19, 2011
Gage N. Ostergard, 88, of Gothenburg died Monday, Sept. 19, 2011, at Golden Living Center in Cozad.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 27, at the First United Methodist Church with Dr. Jeff Thurman officiating. Interment will be at the Gothenburg Cemetery.
Ostergard was born Nov. 20, 1922, at the family farm north of Gothenburg to Samuel J. and Anna M.(Christensen) Ostergard.
He grew up on the family farm, which was located in the Etna area, and attended country school through the eighth grade. He graduated from Gothenburg High School in 1941, and also attended the University of Nebraska.
During World War II, Ostergard served with the Air Force from Feb. 23, 1942, to Feb. 23, 1946.
On July 7, 1946, he was married to Sara Jane Moore at the Antelope Baptist Church of Gothenburg. To this union four children were born.
Ostergard was employed as a farmer/rancher for numerous years. He farmed south of North Platte from 1947 to 1955, and at Omaha from 1953 to 1959 was employed as a parts man for Cummins. He has lived in Gothenburg from 1959 to present.
He was a member of Dawson County Spare Rib Club and two card clubs. He was an avid sports fan of football, basketball, volleyball and track, according to family members.
Ostergard was preceded in death by: his parents, Samuel and Anna; brothers—Howard, Robert and Gene.
Survivors include: his wife, Sara Jane of Gothenburg; three sons—Steve (JoAn) Ostergard of Gothenburg, Nic (Karlene) Ostergard of Callaway, and John (Janet) Ostergard of Grand Island; a daughter, Barb (Chuck) Havlicek of Manhattan, KS; sister, Virgina (Rodney) Sitorius; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
