Ruth Callahan, 97 - November 07, 2011
Ruth G. (Lind) Callahan, 97, of Gothenburg passed away Monday, Nov. 7, 2011, at Hilltop Estates in Gothenburg.
Services will be conducted at Blase-Strauser Memorial Chapel on Thursday, Nov. 10, at 10:30 a.m. with Dennis Berlin officiating. Interment will be at the Gaslin Cemetery at Brady.
A visitation will take place at Blase-Strauser Memorial Chapel on Wednesday, Nov. 9, from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. with family present from 5 to 7 p.m.
Callahan was born Oct. 9, 1914, at Snell Canyon, Government Pocket, Lincoln County, daughter of Carl Adolph Lind and Fannie Fern Evarts Lind.
She was united in marriage to Willis “Bill” J. Callahan on March 22, 1937, at Stockville at a double-wedding ceremony with her brother, Edwin, and her husband’s sister, Amy. To this union, six children were born.
Callahan resided at and around the Brady area, and also for a short time in Springfield, UT.
She enjoyed gathering her family at the family farm or camping as well as quilting, crafting, doing crossword puzzles, baking, writing poetry, telling stories and singing songs, according to family members.
Her talents included painting, wood working, and cutting out a running horse from a blank sheet of paper or tin, said family members.
Callahan was preceded in death by: her husband, Willis “Bill” J. Callahan; her sons—Robert “Bob” and Larry Callahan; brothers—Edwin, Les, John, Albert and Carl Lind; a sister, Mary Doudna; her parents; a great-grandson, Nicholas Freeman.
Survivors include: her two daughters—Rosella (Cecil) Baker of Ruskin, and Chris (Lynn) Barnes of Cozad; two sons—Willis (Onna) Callahan of Alda, and Doug (Marlene) Callahan of Cozad; daughter-in-law, Nancy Callahan; sister-in-law, Margaret Lind; 17 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren and 13 great-great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and extended family members.
Memorials are suggested to the Seventh-day Adventist Church, 1520 Ave. D, Gothenburg, NE 69138.
