Genevieve Hamilton, 93 - December 07, 2011
Genevieve Idona Hamilton, 93, of Gothenburg passed away Wednesday, Dec. 7, 2011, at Hilltop Estates in Gothenburg.
Services were conducted at the Evangelical Free Church on Monday, Dec. 12, with the Rev. Rick Rehmert and Robert Litzenberger officiating. Burial took place at the Riverview Cemetery at McCook.
Hamilton was born Oct. 20, 1918, north of McCook near Center Point, daughter of Charles and Marie (Hansen) Appleyard.
She graduated from Curtis Agricultural School in 1935, then enrolled for two years of Normal Training and taught at rural schools in the area for six years.
On April 25, 1940, she was united in marriage to Willard D. Hamilton at Oberlin, KS. To this union, four children were born.
Hamilton trusted in Jesus Christ as her Savior in the spring of 1945, at the Evergreen Union Church during evangelistic meetings, said family members.
Following the death of her husband in 1974, she was employed as a dorm mom at Western Bible College in Morrison, CO. In 1978, she became the Dean of Women at Calvary Bible College in Kansas City, MO, and continued there until her retirement in 1988. She then moved to Gothenburg where she resided until her death.
She was preceded in death by: her husband, Willard; her parents, Charles and Marie; an infant son, Gary Dean; her son, Ron Hamilton; brother, Lyle Appleyard.
Survivors include: her daughters—Janice (John) Janssen and Carol (Dennis) Brown, all of Gothenburg, and Joy (Vern) Wigle of Chaska, MN; daughter-in-law, Mary Hamilton of Chaska; a brother, DeVere (Betty) Appleyard of Chicago, IL; 10 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren; numerous extended relatives.
Memorials are suggested to the Evangelical Free Church or donor’s choice.
