Teresa Korth, 89 - January 23, 2012
Teresa “Tess” Frances Korth, 89, of Worthington, MN, mother of Gothenburg Times co-publisher Kathi Viergutz, passed away Monday, Jan. 23, 2012, at the Sanford Luverne Hospital at Luverne, MN.
Mass of Christian burial was celebrated Thursday at St. Catherine’s Catholic Church in Luverne with the Rev. Thomas Jennings officiating.
Korth was born on May 23, 1922, to Luther and Catherine (Dolly) Anderson at Norfolk. She spent her childhood years with her family in rural Randolph. During her school years, she would live with her grandmother and grandfather Dolly who lived much closer to her school. She later graduated from Sacred Heart High School in Norfolk and then furthered her education at Wayne State Teacher’s College for one year.
She met her future husband, Desmond “Des” Korth, while attending a dance, and on Sept. 1, 1941, the couple were united in marriage at St. Frances de Chantal Catholic Church in Randolph.
Korth and her husband made their home on farms in rural Coleridge and then rural Randolph, and in 1971, moved to a farm outside of Wilmont, MN. She loved her role as a homemaker and an active farmer, said family members.
On July 30, 1973, her husband died in an automobile accident. She continued to raise their son, Bill, and reside on the farm. In 2008, she made the move to Golden Horizon’s Assisted Living and Memory Care at Worthington, MN.
She was a member of St. Kilian Catholic Church of rural Wilmont where she was active in Guild and also played the organ at church for mass, weddings, and funerals. She was also a member of the Catholic Daughters of America with Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church in Wilmont.
Korth was a social member of the Worthington Country Club and an associate member at the Elks Club where she loved to play cards, according to family members. She was a serious bridge player, and in the winter months, she could be active in three or more card clubs.
She enjoyed sewing, gardening with flowers and vegetables, canning and shopping, family said. Over the years, she took many trips with the Club 55 out of Wilmont. One of her biggest enjoyments was mowing her lawn on the acreage.
Korth was preceded in death by: her husband, Desmond; parents, Luther and Catherine Anderson; brothers—Emmitt, Art, Guy and Earl Anderson.
Survivors include: her children—Judy (Denny) Kaiser of Omaha, Marge (Tom) Ryan of Hornick, IA, Joan (Jim) Walker of Sioux City, IA, Jim (Penny) Korth of Omaha, Kathi (Greg) Viergutz of Gothenburg, and Bill (Karri) Korth of Luverne; 10 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
