Edward Nelson, 88 - June 30, 2012
A memorial service will take place at Blase-Strauser Memorial Chapel on Friday, July 6, at 10 a.m. with the Rev. Larry Viter officiating. Inurnment will be at the Gothenburg Cemetery.
Register book will be available for signing on Thursday, July 5 from 9 am. to 4 p.m. at Blase-Strauser Memorial Chapel of Gothenburg.
Nelson was born March 19, 1924, at Waco to Porter S. and Angeline C. (Groff) Nelson.
He entered the United States Army on Dec. 16, 1944. He served as a firefighter at the PTO headquarters Co SOP AC BACOM. He was honorably discharged on July 30, 1946.
On June 10, 1947, he was united in marriage to Olive Lenz at Lexington. To this union, six children were born.
Nelson was employed as an operator for several hay mills retiring from Continental Grain.
He was preceded in death by: his parents, Porter and Angeline; his son, Billy; a daughter-in-law, Marcia Nelson; grandson, Russell Nelson; great-grandson, Dominic; brother, Cornelius Eugene Nelson; two sisters—Grace Comstock and Mabel Soul.
Survivors include: his wife, Olive E. Nelson of Gothenburg; three sons—Lee Nelson, Carl (Rita) Nelson and Robert “Dusty” Nelson, all of Gothenburg; two daughters—Faye Annette Nelson of Sarcoxie, MO, and Marjorie Ann (Rich) Rundlett of Callaway; nine grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and five step-grandchildren; a sister, Margaret (Lavern) Zacharias of Hampton, IA; numerous other family members.
Memorials are suggested to the designation of Gothenburg Honor Guard.
