Edward Schledewitz, 87 - July 12, 2012

Edward G. Schledewitz, 87, of Kearney, formerly of Gothenburg, died Thursday, July 12, 2012, at his residence.
Services will be conducted at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, July 18, at the Evangelical Free Church in Kearney. Interment will be at 2 p.m. at the Ft. McPherson National Cemetery near Maxwell.
A visitation will take place from 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday at the O’Brien Straatmann Redinger Funeral Home in Kearney.
Schledewitz was born Dec. 2, 1924, at Gering to John and Mary (Weber) Schledewitz. He grew up and received his education in Lexington.
He entered the Army on May 29, 1945, and served during World War II. He was honorably discharged Oct. 25, 1946.
On March 4, 1950, he was united in marriage to Leota Brandenberg at Lexington.
Schledewitz farmed most of his life, first near Gothenburg, and then moving his operation north of Axtell in 1967.
He and his wife retired to Kearney in 1990. He was a member of the American Legion Club in Gothenburg and the Elks Lodge of Kearney.
Schledewitz was preceded in death by: both his parents, John and Mary; four brothers and two sisters.
Survivors include: his wife, Leota Schledewitz of Kearney; sons—Edward J. (Gwen) Schledewitz of Westminister, CO, and William E. Schledewitz of Kearney; daughters—Karen (Jim) Cherniss of Napa, CA, and Jane Varwig of Kearney; three sisters; seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Memorials are suggested to the family for future designation.
