Bruce Lobdell, 83 - October 14, 2012Bruce William Lobdell, 83, of Gothenburg died Sunday, Oct. 14, 2012, at Gothenburg.
Services will be conducted at the American Lutheran Church on Thursday, Oct. 18, at 10:30 a.m. with the Rev. Tom Wilson and Lonna Grabenstein, PMA, officiating. Interment will take place at Fort McPherson National Cemetery.
A visitation will be at Blase-Strauser Memorial Chapel in Gothenburg on Wednesday, Oct. 17, from 1 to 8 p.m.
Lobdell was born April 12, 1929, to Everet and Ella Lobdell at Lexington. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Church of Cozad.
He attended Lexington High School and joined the U.S. Army in 1948, serving his country until 1950.
On Sept. 30, 1950, he was united in marriage to Dorothy Helen Cler Wood. To this union, three children were born.
Lobdell and his wife farmed in the Cozad area until he became employed with Monroe Auto Equipment. He retired from Monroe’s in 1991.
He and his wife enjoyed 13 years of traveling following his retirement where they visited 49 of the 50 states.
Lobdell was an avid gardener and took great pride in his hostas and flowers, said family members. He was also an avid Husker fan, but his true love was his family. He always had a special place in his heart for his children and grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by: his parents, Everet and Ella; three sisters—Pat, Caroline and Beverly; a brother, Rodney; step-daughter, Lana.
Survivors include: his wife, Dorothy Lobdell; a son, Gary Lobdell of Lincoln; daughters—Marlene (Larry) Fiese of Gothenburg and Sandi (Mike) Brown of North Platte; grandchildren—Jason, Casey, Scott, Cameron, Torey, Hillary and Whitney; step-grandchildren—Josh, Cassie and Chantel; great-grandchildren—Ava, Cash and Brady.
Memorials are suggested to the Gothenburg Senior Center, 410 20th, St., Gothenburg, NE 69138; American Lutheran Church, 1512 Ave. G, Gothenburg, NE 69138; and Gothenburg Volunteer Fire Department, 602 10th St., Gothenburg, NE 69138.
