Melitta Antrim, 82 - December 23, 2012

Melitta “Mel” Antrim, 82, of Lincoln, originally of Gothenburg, died Sunday, Dec. 23, 2012.
Services were conducted on Friday, Dec. 28, at Madonna Chapel, located at 5401 South St., with Chaplain Steve Werner officiating.
Antrim was born Dec. 16, 1930, at Gothenburg to Herman and Rixte (Westerbuhr) Franzen.
She was baptized and confirmed at Christ Lutheran Church of Gothenburg, and remained a member there until she left home to attend college in 1948.
Antrim attended the local grade school, first through eighth grades, rural school which was named Valley School District No. 47, then graduated from Gothenburg High School. She also earned a bachelor degree in English from Wartburg College in Waverly, IA.
She was united in marriage to Alvin O. Antrim of Lincoln. The couple resided at Lincoln where they raised their only child, who became a large part of their lives and became the center of their warm and loving home life, according to family members.
During these years she spent time as a homemaker, worked as a private secretary and taught English studies at the Waverly schools. She also attended the University of Nebraska earning hours toward a masters degree.
?After ending full-time employment as a teacher, she worked as a substitute teacher with the Lincoln Public Schools for some years. She also volunteered in community efforts such as the adult literacy program, the Lincoln Public Libraries, her church and various other projects for brief periods of time.
Antrim was preceded in death by: her husband, Alvin O’Hern Antrim; her parents, Herman and Rixte; a sister, Della Kuhlman.
Survivors include: her daughter, Kathie Elizabeth of Lincoln; a sister, Dorothy Fenner of Gothenburg; two brothers-in-law—Rex Fenner and Willard Kuhlman, both of Gothenburg; sister-in-law, Inez Guy of Lincoln; nieces and nephews.
