World spins out of order for kids with autism

Occupational therapist says cases of the disability have skyrocketed.

First in a two-part series.

Having autism is like falling through Alice’s looking glass in “Alice in Wonderland.”

“The whole world is out of order and the child has difficulty understanding the natural social order of the world,” said occupational therapist Jenny Daup of Gothenburg, who has had advanced training in autism.

Although communication and expressing and managing emotions can be difficult, she said children who have autism are just like other children.
