A hero’s welcome

Dawson County honors veterans with D.C. trip

Editor’s note: The experiences of Gothenburg veterans during military service will be featured in the Memorial Day issue of The Times, which will be published May 25.

  “Dear Soldier,

Thank you for fighting for our country. I am very thankful for you and that God protected you, so I have the privilege of meeting you. Thank you for everything you have done for me, my family, my friends and my country. Jesus loves you. God bless you.

Thank you for the courage that you have to keep me safe. Know you are loved. My grandfather fought in the Korean War and I know what it could be like to miss someone.

God Bless You,

Faith”

A hero’s welcome is what six Gothenburg veterans said they received during a hero flight to Washington, D.C. last week.

Korean veteran Jack Soller received the above letter from a student at one of the monuments the group visited.
