County warned of rising waters

LEXINGTON—Dawson County’s Emergency Management director says rising waters on the Platte River and its tributaries should be expected through at least the next month.

Brian Woldt told Dawson County Commissioners on Friday the county could expect minor to moderate flooding throughout June.

He said Central Nebraska Public Power and Irrigation District officials reported that Wyoming reservoirs are full and Lake McConaughy is at 89% capacity. Therefore, CNPPID will release more water from Kingsley Dam.

Woldt said estimates show that flooding could be worse than last year, and landowners can expect water to reach 2004 flood levels.
