Mayor: ‘Feel the fear and do it anyway’

City officials, project partners cut ribbon on renovated Lake Helen.

Gothenburg Mayor Joyce Hudson cited a book by Susan Jeffers when she spoke to a small crowd during a ribbon-cutting ceremony Friday that marked the completion of renovations at Lake Helen.

“Feel the fear and do it anyway,” Hudson quoted. “We all took a few bumps and bruises throughout this project, but I feel it was all well worth it.”

The short program and ribbon-cutting were used to celebrate roughly four years of work to rehabilitate and renovate what consultant Paul Brakhage of Lake-Tech Consulting called, via email, the crown jewel of Gothenburg.
