Killed in action

HE PLANNED TO RETURN: Local farmer Mark Alberts has a hat worn by Lynn Wieser of Gothenburg, who was killed in action in Vietnam on May 13, 1969. Wieser worked for Alberts’ father, George. Before Wieser left for the service in 1968, Alberts said Wieser hung his cap on the shop wall and told George he’d be back. Since then, Alberts said the old shop was torn down on the Alberts farm northeast of Gothenburg and a new one built. Alberts re-hung Wieser’s cap in the new shop (pictured.) Wieser served in the U.S. Army and is buried in the Gothenburg Cemetery.
