McGown gets unexpected 6% raise

James McGown told Brady school board members he didn’t expect a salary increase after his first year on the job as superintendent.

“I signed a two-year contract,” he said at Monday night’s meeting, “and I expected to stay at that salary.”

But board members praised McGown’s leadership and voted to revise his contract to reflect a 6% salary increase for the second year.

McGown came to Brady at the beginning of the 2015-16 school year, serving as superintendent for the first time after having been K-12 principal, activities director and test coordinator at Leyton Public Schools in Dalton.

“I feel like he’s earned his keep,” said board president Marge Spencer.
