New equipment prepares BVFD for grain rescue

Bob Rayburn said he wasn’t nervous as a semi load of corn slowly sucked him deeper and deeper. He felt pressure intensify the farther he dropped, but he knew he was in good hands.

Rayburn didn’t get in the grain by accident. Members of the Brady Volunteer Fire Department and others from surrounding communities watched and participated as Rayburn was the first mock victim for training with new rescue equipment.

Farm Credit Services of America donated a grain rescue kit to the Brady department and Dale Ekdahl of Outstate Data in Minnesota provided training Monday night.

The equipment includes a metal panel system, slide hammer and other accessories designed specifically for grain bin entrapments.
